How iOS makes it easier to manage your subscriptions

Unlike some companies, Apple doesn’t want to sucker you into subscriptions by making it really hard to cancel them.

In fact, the latest iOS update makes it easier than ever to manage your recurring app subscriptions. Here’s how to dive in and take control of your iOS subscriptions.

Manage iOS subscriptions

To begin with, make sure you are running iOS 12.1.4 or the iOS 12.2 beta.

From there, open the App Store app. Then hit your profile picture in the top right side. Then tap Manage Subscriptions. This will let you view your active recurring subscriptions to services like Apple Music or third-party apps.

Previously, iOS forced users wanting to manage subscriptions to sign in with their Apple ID. That was not exactly challenging. But Apple’s new approach to subscription management simplifies things by eliminating that extra step.

MacStories editor Federico Viticci spotted the change.

Apple embraces subscription services

With Apple’s services division more important than ever to the company’s bottom line, Cupertino increasingly pushes subscriptions. Morgan Stanley analysts predict an intensified focus on subscription-based services will help Apple once again hit the $1 trillion valuation.

Apple Music currently boasts 56 million subscribers, making it the second-biggest streaming music service (behind Spotify).

Apple also plans to launch a subscription new service, although publishers reportedly are balking at the 50/50 revenue split Cupertino wants. And then there’s the unannounced streaming video service that Apple continues to develop.

The company will supposedly unveil new services at a March 25 event at Apple Park. The premium Apple News subscription service reportedly will be the main attraction — although we might hear about Apple’s original video content then as well.
